Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about divorce and separation

How does the divorce process work?
Since April 2022, no-fault divorce applies in England and Wales. You apply online, there's a 20-week reflection period, then a conditional order, followed 6 weeks later by the final order. Financial and child matters are handled separately.
How long does divorce take?
The divorce itself takes a minimum of 26 weeks. However, finances and child arrangements can take longer to resolve, depending on complexity and whether you can agree with your spouse.
Do we have to go to court?
Most aspects of divorce can be handled without a court hearing. If you and your spouse agree on finances and children, the court approves your agreement. Only contested matters typically require hearings.
